Hepatoid Variant of Yolk Sac Tumor of Both Ovaries With Widespread Intra-abdominal and Lung Metastasis: A Case Report
نویسندگان
چکیده مقاله:
Hepatoid variant of yolk sac tumor of ovary is an unusual tumor with an aggressive behavior. It is usually observed in young females, presents with abdominal complaints and is associated with raised α-fetoprotein (AFP) levels. It should be differentiated from other hepatoid tumors involving the ovary. A complete patient evaluation with gross, microscopy, and immunohistochemistry can identify the site of origin to administer appropriate treatment. The current study reported the case of a 30-year-old married parous female presenting with abdominal distention and pain of two months duration. She had regular menstrual cycles. Based on lab investigations her serum AFP level was markedly raised to 34,244 ng/mL (normal range: 0-9 ng/mL). Computerized tomography (CT) scan showed large lobulated heterogeneous mass in both ovaries and omental, gall bladder, and lung metastasis. A CT guided biopsy of the ovarian mass was done. On histopathology, a differential diagnosis of hepatoid variant of yolk sac tumor, hepatoid carcinoma of ovary and hepatoid tumor arising from gall bladder metastasizing to the ovary were observed. Patient underwent surgery. Per operatively gross ascites with bilateral ovarian mass, extensive omental, pelvic, and gall bladder deposits were observed. Bilateral salpingo-oophorectomy with omental deposit biopsy was conducted. Histopathology along with immunohistochemistry confirmed a diagnosis of hepatoid variant of yolk sac tumor in both ovaries with widespread intra-abdominal metastasis.

Cardiac metastasis from yolk sac tumor: case report and review
Cardiac metastasis of germ cell tumors is extremely rare, particularly in females. We report a case of a 26-year-old previously healthy woman who presented with a 5-month history of abdominal pain, weight loss, fever, generalized lymphadenopathy, and acanthosis nigricans. Biopsy of cervical lymph nodes revealed a poorly differentiated neoplasm. Immunohistochemical staining was positive for alph...
متن کاملGastric Adenocarcinoma with Yolk Sac Tumor Differentiation and Liver Metastasis of Yolk Sac Tumor Component
Gastric adenocarcinoma with yolk sac tumor (YST) differentiation has rarely been reported. We report a case of primary gastric adenocarcinoma with yolk sac tumor differentiation and liver metastases of the YST component in a 50-years-old patient. This was suspected due to high serum level of alpha fetoprotein in the presence of a gastric fundal tumor. Gastric carcinoma with yolk sac tumor compo...
متن کاملYOLK SAC TUMOR OF VAGINA
Malignant germ-cell tumors (MGCT) are rare tumors of childhood accounting for less than 3% of pediatric malignancies. Endodermal sinus tumor (EST) forms the most common histologic subtype of MGCT. The vagina is an extremely rare site for GCTs. An 8-month-old female was admitted with a short history of vaginal bleeding, and a mass protruding from the vagina. She was pale and a mass was palpab...
متن کاملEndometrial Yolk Sac Tumor with Omental Metastasis
To the Editor: A 38‐year‐old woman presented at our hospital with a complaint of hypermenorrhea lasting 2 months. No symptoms were found by bimanual examination, and vaginal ultrasound showed endometrial thickness of 4 mm. Diagnostic curettage strongly suggested clear‐cell adenocarcinoma. Magnetic resonance imaging of the pelvis showed an intact endometrial binding zone with no extrauterine inf...
متن کاملAdult metastatic yolk sac tumor descending from an intra-abdominal testis: A case report and review of the literature.
Pure yolk sac tumors are extremely rare in adults; to the best of our knowledge, <20 cases have been reported. Multiple metastases originating from a pure yolk sac testicular tumor, descending from an intra-abdominal testis, are additionally extremely rare. In the present case, a man exhibiting a 30-year history of cryptorchidism and indirect inguinal hernia, was admitted to the Department of U...
متن کاملPrimary Yolk Sac Tumor Arising in the Pancreas with Hepatic Metastasis: a Case Report
Extragonadal yolk sac tumor (YST) is a relatively rare entity. We describe here the case of an extragonadal YST that occurred in the pancreas with hepatic metastasis in an adult woman. The contrast enhanced CT images of the abdomen revealed a heterogeneous, solitary mass occupying the pancreatic neck and body with slightly inhomogeneous contrast enhancement. Two low-density lesions in the liver...
